Upcoming Sustainable Centre Visits
Sustainable centre visits and networking opportunities are planned throughout the year at various locations around and beyond Melbourne. Venues such as early childhood services, gardens, zoos, recycling stations etc which are actively participating in education for sustainability are chosen to provide members with ideas and inspiration to feedback to their own centres.
Previous Sustainable Centre Visits

Presbyterian Ladies’ College Early Learning Centre
When visiting the Presbyterian Ladies’ College Early Learning Centre (ELC), it is immediately clear that children’s voices and creativity are at the heart of the environment. From the moment you arrive, children’s work is visible everywhere, with nature and sustainability embedded into every aspect of the learning spaces. Our host, Katina Grammatoglou, Educational Leader and Teacher, shared the centre’s inspiring sustainability journey. Grounded in inquiry, intentionality, and deep listening, this journey empowers children to meaningfully engage with their indoor and outdoor environments. One of the key guiding principles is the Culture of Care, a way of working with children that emphasises compassion, tenderness, kindness, and respect.
We thank Katina and her colleagues for generously sharing their work and inspiring us with their commitment, creativity, and courage. Their example shows how sustainability can truly become a culture—embraced by children, educators, families, and the wider community.

Isabel Henderson Kindergarten
Our recent visit to Isabel Henderson Kindergarten was inspiring and thought provoking. It offered a rich and meaningful insight into how sustainability, wellbeing, and genuine inquiry can be embedded in everyday practice, while holding space for the wonder and pace of childhood. It has been 10 years since EEEC hosted a sustainable centre visit at Isabel Henderson. It was wonderful to reconnect with the space that is integral to the journey for sustainability in early childhood in Victoria.

Kids by the Bay Children’s Centre
Our Sustainable Centre visit to Kids by the Bay included both their Williamstown centre and the Hobson’s Bay Farm site. At the Williamstown centre, we observed sustainability in action through the use of preloved furniture and materials, alongside strong Indigenous learning experiences.
We then travelled by the centre’s bus to Hobson’s Bay Farm, where we enjoyed morning tea and discussions with lead educators. The farm kinder program encourages children to engage in meaningful, hands-on activities such as feeding animals, collecting eggs, planting vegetables, watering, and cooking damper over the fire.
A key feature of the farm is that other centres can book excursions, with children and staff transported to and from the farm by the centre’s bus, making the experience widely accessible.
